  1. A really entertaining read for a Sunday afternoon. I'm always impressed with this type of storytelling that moves along with seemingly effortless attention paid to characterization while at the same time managing to keep the action and suspense at a high level.

This really comes into play during the high stakes poker game near the end when Sam Blaylock puts up his ranch as part of his bet. Even though I didn't think for a minute that Sam was going to lose, there was this little nagging voice in the back of my head that kept insisting that it could happen. I attribute that to Mr. Jackson's skill maintaining the suspense of the scene. A solidly written book on all levels.
